Soul of a Leader
SOAL 86: Play Life Differently

subscribe

Erin Lydon, President of Poker Power, discusses how their program uses the game of poker to teach women leadership skills, encourage risk-taking, and build confidence. Their mission is to empower a million women through the game of Texas Hold ’em.

On the other side, risk could be something really fabulous or great.

Shifting the perspective on the stereotypes of the game truly is the only way that we are going to open poker to a much larger community.

We play life differently and that is what we are doing with poker.

If we can see the good in each other, boy, it is an igniting light. It’s igniting light to each one of us to see the good in each other.

You’ll Learn

  • Women often hesitate to go all in because they are uncertain about their decision-making and do not want to leave the game.
  • The game of poker involves analyzing imperfect information, making it suitable for those with analytical minds such as lawyers.
  • The program also teaches poker math, which is crucial to the game’s strategy.
  • Poker Power offers a supportive learning environment for women that allows for mistakes and iterative learning.
